abstract | FIELD: biotechnology. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an automated mixing system, in particular to a system allowing mixing of biological samples, such as whole blood, placental/umbilical blood, bone marrow, apheresis product or stromal vascular fraction contained in a flexible container for collection, especially during addition of a sulfur-containing organic compound, such as dimethylsulfoxide, or other biological additives. A device for mixing of biological samples contained in flexible storage containers (104) at a controlled temperature includes a base plate (105) to support a storage container with the biological sample to be mixed; means to allow the sample to move in a storage container located on the base plate for sample mixing; and a temperature control means to maintain the sample at controlled temperature during mixing. The means to provide sample movement includes at least one inflatable bag (102, 103) (air bag) which, when inflated, contacts the surface of the storage container part, gradually compressing the storage container and moving the sample contained therein into the other part of the storage container. n EFFECT: invention allows safe, smooth, even and effective mixing of biological samples. n 8 cl, 11 dwg |
