titleOfInvention | Mic decrease with lithium ions |
abstract | FIELD: biotechnology.SUBSTANCE: to reduce the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the biocide against at least one strain of bacteria and/or at least one strain of yeast and/or at least one strain of mould in an aqueous preparation, wherein the method comprises the steps of: a) provision of an aqueous preparation, b) provision of at least one biocide, c) provision of at least one water-soluble source of lithium ions, d) contacting of the aqueous preparation of step a) with at least one biocide of step b), wherein at least the one biocide is effective against at least one strain of bacteria and/or at least one strain of yeast and/or at least one strain of mould, when present in an aqueous preparation, e) contacting of the aqueous preparation of step a) before and/or during and/or after step d) with least one water-soluble source of lithium ions of step c) in an amount such that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of at least one biocide against at least one strain of bacteria and/or at least one strain of yeast and/or at least one strain of mould satisfies the equation (I): MIC/MIC≥ 1,1 (I), where MICis the minimum inhibitory concentration of at least one biocide against at least one strain of bacteria and/or at least one strain of yeast and/or at least one mould strain without at least one water-soluble source of lithium ions in ppm, calculated with respect to the weight of water in the aqueous preparation of step a), MICis the minimum inhibitory concentration of at least one biocide against at least one strain of bacteria and/or at least one strain of yeast and/or at least one strain of mould with at least one water-soluble source of lithium ions in ppm calculated with respect to the weight of water in the aqueous preparation of step a), wherein at least one water-soluble source of lithium ions is present in the aqueous phase of the aqueous preparation such that the total amount of lithium ions is from 15.0 to 800.0 mmol/l as calculated with respect to the weight of water in the aqueous preparation, and wherein at least one biocide is present in the aqueous phase of the aqueous preparation in an amount of 0.4 to 6500.0 ppm, as calculated with respect to the weight of water in the aqueous preparation.EFFECT: decrease of the minimum inhibitory concentration.21 cl, 5 tbl, 3 ex |
