abstract FIELD: biotechnology. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 3-[(phenylsulfenyl) methyl] pentane-2.4-dione of formula (1) n . n The essence of the method is the interaction of the mixture of formaldehyde and thiophenol with 2.4-pentanedione involving the catalyst NiCl 2 ⋅6H 2 O at the mole ratio of formaldehyde as follows: thiophenol: 2.4-pentanedione: NiCl 2 ⋅6H 2 O=1:1:1:(0.03-0.07) in the mixture of solvents CHCl 3 -C 2 H 5 OH (1:1, vol.), at room temperature (~20°C) and atmospheric pressure for 6-8 h. n EFFECT: obtained compounds have a fungicidal activity to micromycetes of phytopathogenic fungi Bipolaris sorokiniana, Fusarium oxysporum lesion, Rhizoctonia solani. n 2 cl, 2 tbl, 1 ex
