abstract FIELD: heat exchange. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to heat source, for example, a heat source suitable for use in a smoking article, as well as to a smoking article comprising a heat source. Composite heat source (6) for a smoking article comprises non-combustible porous ceramic matrix (16); and particulate combustible fuel (18) embedded within non-combustible porous ceramic matrix (16), wherein non-combustible porous ceramic matrix is formed from one or more particulate materials having a median D50 particle size at least five times less than median D50 particle size of particulate combustible fuel, and volume fraction of particulate combustible fuel (18) embedded in non-combustible porous ceramic matrix (16) is less than or equal to about 50 % of composite heat source (6). n EFFECT: technical result is preventing formation of new channels of large diameter and prevention of undesirable reduction of strength of matrix. n 14 cl, 5 dwg, 2 ex
