abstract | FIELD: pharmaceutics. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a novel compound of formula I, specificaly (S)-(-)-3-(3'-hydroxy)-butylphthalide and an ester formed from a compound of formula I and an acid, which is a pharmaceutically acceptable inorganic or organic acid. Inorganic acid refers to: nitric acid, sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid. In addition to acid radical, organic acid contains at least one amine group, hydroxy group and carboxy group. Neither compound of formula I, nor ester formed therefrom is soluble in water and can be used for treating and preventing cerebral ischemic diseases and improve sleep. Ester obtained from compounds and acid additionally interacts with an acid or base to obtain a salt which is soluble in water and is used to produce injection drug.
