abstract FIELD: metallurgy. n SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for production of modified cast iron with high quality properties. Method uses dust from gas cleaning of electrothermal production of silicon containing following component ratio, wt%: SiO 2 75÷95, SiC 4.0÷11.0, C free 3.0÷7.0, MgO 0.4÷1.2, Al 2 O 3 0,5÷1,0, Fe 2 O 3 0.3÷0.9, CaO 1.0÷2.0, other 0.8÷2.3, weight of modifier to be directed for modifying is kept in range of 0.05÷0.1 % of melt weight. Invention provides production of cast iron with high strength properties at optimum hardness thereof, which improves processability of casts, as well as with sufficient uniformity of mechanical properties in sections of casts of different thickness. n EFFECT: considerably improved quality of casting, reduced casting defects on “chill”. n 1 cl, 1 tbl
