abstract FIELD: metallurgy. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of rare-earth metals or their oxides from lean or industrial raw material using floatation extraction. Method to extract holmium (III) from water phases involves floatation extraction using organic phase and collector. At that, organic phase used is isooctyl alcohol, and collector is anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate in concentration corresponding to stoichiometry: Ho +3 +3NaDS=Ho(DS) 3 +3Na + , where Ho +3 is holmium (III) cation, NaDS is sodium dodecyl sulfate.
