FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of alkylating aromatic hydrocarbons using aliphatic alcohols containing 1-8 carbon atoms. The method includes feeding a hydrocarbon and an alcohol from the top of the housing of a fixed-bed reactor operating in "trickle flow" mode, having at least one catalyst bed which includes a zeolite selected from zeolites with average pores and zeolites with large pores, where in the alkylation reactor, the aromatic hydrocarbon and aliphatic alcohol are in gas phase, and the alkylation products are in liquid phase.
