FIELD: physics, atomic power. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear fuel and nuclear fuel elements. A metallic fuel rod includes an annular nuclear fuel made of a metal alloy, a zirconium protective cover surrounding and in contact with the nuclear fuel, a cover surrounding the protective cover and a gas collector in the cover. A centre opening provides effective fuel density of 75% or less during irradiation.
