abstract FIELD: medicine, pharmaceutics. n SUBSTANCE: invention refers to biotechnology. A method provides genetic typing of a dog's DNA sample for the presence or absence of one or more polymorphisms specified in (a) SNP ATP7a_Reg3_F_6 (SEQ ID NO:142) and (b) one or more polymorphisms closely linked under non-equilibrium conditions to the above polymorphism in a dog's genome. What is also described is using the above polymorphisms to state a probability of the protection against accumulation of copper in the dog's liver or a propensity for accumulation of copper in the liver, as well as methods for selecting the dogs for breeding, and a method for preventing a disease related to accumulation of copper in the dog's copper.
