FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to biotechnology. The invention discloses a modified capsular saccharide for inducing humoral immune response, a method for production and use thereof in preventing or treating bacterial meningitis, a saccharide-protein conjugate and methods for production thereof, a pharmaceutical composition based on the modified capsular saccharide and a method of inducing humoral immune response in mammals. The modified capsular saccharide contains a blocking group in the hydroxyl group position on at least 80% of monosaccharide units of the corresponding native capsular saccharide. The blocking group has the formula (Ia): -O-X-Y (Ia), where X is C(O); Y is C 1-6 alkyl, substituted with 1, 2 or 3 groups independently selected from hydroxyl, sulphydryl and amino groups. n EFFECT: disclosed modified capsular saccharide is more resistant to hydrolysis than the native saccharide; presence of said blocking group provides more effective conjugation of the modified capsular saccharide with a carrier molecule. n 38 cl, 9 dwg, 4 tbl, 2 ex |
