abstract | FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing copolymers of C 4-7 isoolefin monomers and C 1-7 alkylstyrene monomers. Described polymerisation method for producing polymers from C 4-7 isoolefin monomers and alkylstyrene monomers, the method including the following steps: a) feeding raw material streams into a reactor, the raw material streams including isoolefin and alkylstyrene monomers, where an alkyl substitute in the alkylstyrene is C 1-7 alkyl, a diluent which includes methyl chloride and optionally 5-50 vol % of at least one hydrofluorocarbon and/or a nonpolar diluent, and a catalyst system, wherein the catalyst system is selected from either i) a weak Lewis acid with a HCl initiator, or ii) ethylaluminium dichloride, an initiator and an alcohol, an ester or particles containing ions selected from organic salts of the following: quaternary ammonium halides, quaternary phosphonium halides or oxonium ions; and b) providing contact between raw material streams inside the reactor such that monomers form a polymer in a suspension, wherein content of the polymer in the suspension provides concentration of the suspension higher than 22 wt %, wherein the molar ratio of the formed polymer to the initiator is not more than 4 moles polymer per mole initiator.
