abstract | FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a biocidal composition. The biocidal composition is intended for inhibiting microorganisms in a water or water-containing system. Said composition contains 2,2-dibromomalonamide and a biocide which contains an electrophile selected from a group which includes 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol, bromonitrostyrene, methylenebis(thiocyanate) and 1,2-dibromo-2,4-dicyanobutane. If the electrophile-containing biocide is 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol, the weight ratio of 2,2-dibromomalonamide to 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol ranges from 32:1 to 1:2. If the electrophile-containing biocide is bromonitrostyrene, the weight ratio of 2,2-dibromomalonamide to bromonitrostyrene ranges from 32:1 to 1:2. If the electrophile-containing biocide is methylenebis(thiocyanate), the weight ratio of 2,2-dibromomalonamide to methylenebis(thiocyanate) ranges from 32:1 to 4:1.
