titleOfInvention Method of making titanium-tritium target
abstract FIELD: physics. n SUBSTANCE: method includes activating a layer of hydride-forming metal (titanium) deposited on a substrate in a saturation chamber by heating to 300-500°C and feeding tritium into the saturation chamber, followed by cooling. Tritium is fed into the saturation chamber before activation of the layer of the hydride-forming metal, wherein activation is carried out in a tritium medium. The amount of absorbed tritium is calculated based on the condition of achieving atomic ratio T/Ti of 1.5-1.7, and heating and cooling of the saturation chamber is carried out at a rate of 2-3°C/min. n EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring the amount of tritium absorbed by a target, simple process of saturating targets by combining activation and saturation operations, easy control of the degree of saturation of the titanium layer, low probability of exfoliation of tritium titanate from the substrate and, consequently, radiation contamination of the process equipment and safer working conditions of personnel. n 1 ex
