abstract FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing ethyl benzene, which includes a step of conducting an alkylation reaction in gas phase or mixed phase conditions, which includes reacting benzene with ethanol containing up to 20 wt % water, at pressure higher than atmospheric pressure in the presence of a catalyst system which contains a zeolite belonging to the BEA family, and a step of separating the obtained ethyl benzene. The step of separating ethyl benzene from the reaction mixture follows the alkylation step. n EFFECT: method improves operational characteristics, the service life of the catalyst and, consequently, efficiency in the presence of a significant amount of water, using a catalyst which contains a BEA zeolite, and when operating in suitable reaction conditions. n 17 cl, 2 tbl, 2 ex
