titleOfInvention Method for prediction of risk of developing stress fractures of lower extremities
abstract FIELD: medicine. n SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to traumatology and orthopaedics, and can be used for prediction of a risk of stress fractures of lower extremities. That is ensured by measuring a patient's height and body weight. The body weight index (BWI) is measured. Further, a span to a height ratio, an upper to lower body segment ratio, a foot length to height percentage and a hand length to height ratio are further calculated. The patient's blood serum calcium level is measured. The patient is additionally examined for the presence of signs of undifferentiated connective tissue dysplasia. The relevant values are expressed in scores. An osteodensitometry of a lumbar spine is carried out. Bone density is determined and scores are calculated by specific formulas for the patients of 18 to 20 years old and for the patients of 21 to 27 years old. The total score for all the values is calculated. If the total score in the patients of 18 to 20 years old is more than 52 points, in the patients of 21 to 27 years old is more than 64 points, a risk of stress fractures of lower extremities is considered to be high. n EFFECT: method provides predicting the risk of stress bone fractures in males of 18-27 years old that in its turn enables selecting conscripts for various military services, as well as sportsmen for top-class sports departments. n 1 ex, 2 dwg, 1 tbl
