abstract | FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: method of determining concentration of an anionic polymer or oligomer in an industrial water sample involves: (a) adding a multifunctional buffer solution to said sample, wherein said multifunctional buffer solution contains at least one masking agent selected from a group consisting of a bivalent magnesium salt, a ferrous salt, a calcium salt, a zinc salt, a quaternary amine surfactant or combinations thereof; (b) adding a cationic dye solution to the buffer-sample mixture obtained at step (a); (c) measuring absorption of the complex mixture obtained at step (b) at a selected wavelength or wavelengths; and (d) determining polymer or oligomer concentration from the absorption values measured at step (c) based on a predetermined calibration equation. n EFFECT: easier and more accurate analysis. n 13 cl, 8 dwg |
