titleOfInvention | Light reflector and collimator assembly for improved light accumulation in scintillation detectors |
abstract | FIELD: physics. n SUBSTANCE: in radionuclide imaging, a flash of visible light is formed when gamma-rays fall on a scintillator. That light is detected by a photodetector and processed by suitable electronic equipment. In the detector element (18), the first reflecting layer (44) partially surrounds the scintillation crystal (34). The first reflecting layer (44) scatters scintillated light. The second reflecting layer (46) and the reflecting layer (48) of the support component prevent exit of light from the scintillation crystal (34) in any way, except the light-emitting surface (36) of the scintillator (34). In another version, a light concentrator (50) is connected to the scintillator (34) and channels scattered light onto the light-sensitive part of a photodetector (38). Reflecting layers (44, 46, 48) and the concentrator (50) enable reception of all or almost all of the light emitted by the scintillator (34) by the photodetector (38). n EFFECT: improved time resolution of the device. n 14 cl, 8 dwg |
