abstract | FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of converting methane-containing starting material into synthetic gas and an aromatic hydrocarbon (hydrocarbons). The method involves: (a) contacting the methane-containing starting material with a dehydrocyclisation catalyst in conditions sufficient for obtaining a first effluent containing said aromatic hydrocarbons, residual methane and H 2 , where said first effluent has concentration of aromatic rings which is at least 5 wt % higher than concentration of aromatic rings in said starting material. Further, (b) extracting at least a portion of said aromatic hydrocarbons from said first effluent and then (c) reaction of at least a portion of said H 2 and said residual methane from said first effluent with oxygen-containing materials to obtain a second effluent containing H 2 and CO, where the total number of moles of H 2 and CO in said effluent is greater than the number of moles of H 2 and CO in said first effluent. n EFFECT: method provides improved conversion of methane into aromatic hydrocarbons. n 15 cl, 5 ex |
