titleOfInvention System for controlled refraction of ultrasound and/or light
abstract FIELD: physics. ^ SUBSTANCE: system for variable refraction of light and ultrasonic waves has at least one lens with two immiscible liquids which form a boundary in between, and apparatus for applying a force directly to at least part of one liquid in order to move part of the boundary. At least one lens contains a lens selected from: (i) a first lens having apparatus for variable focusing of ultrasonic waves without essentially refracting light waves, and a second lens having apparatus for variable focusing of light waves without essentially refracting ultrasonic waves. The second lens is placed in series with the first lens, and (ii) a lens in which two immiscible liquids contain a liquid 1 and a liquid 2. Liquid 1 has light refraction index n1 and sound speed v1, and liquid 2 has refraction index n2 and sound speed v2, where the boundary between the two liquids 1 and 2 satisfies the expression: The lenses allow simultaneous variable focusing of ultrasonic and light waves at essentially the same point in space. ^ EFFECT: simultaneous varying of refraction of ultrasonic and light waves. ^ 15 cl, 4 dwg
