FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method of producing amino alcohol of formula: , where R 1 and R 2 are selected from H, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, by converting glycerine. The method comprises steps on which glycerine is heated in the presence of a copper-containing metallic catalyst to obtain hydroxyacetone; hydroxyacetone reacts with the corresponding amine compound so as to maintain low concentration of hydroxyacetone in the reaction mixture while adding to the amine compound to obtain an adduct; and the adduct is reduced using a hydrogen-containing reducing agent in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst selected from a group comprising RANEY® nickel, RANEY® nickel doped with other transition metals selected from Mo, Cr, Pd, Fe or combinations thereof. n EFFECT: method reduces or prevents formation of considerable amounts of undesirable by-products. n 13 cl, 13 ex, 7 tbl, 2 dwg |
