abstract FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method for reaction extraction of levulinic acid from an aqueous mixture containing levulinic acid, in which the aqueous mixture is brought into contact with a liquid esterifying alcohol which has at least four carbon atoms and is essentially immiscible with water, under esterfication conditions in the presence of a catalyst and at temperature ranging from 50 to 250°C, resulting in formation of a levulinic acid ester. One liquid alcohol is used in such an amount that, it extracts the ester from the aqueous mixture with formation of an aqueous phase containing the catalyst and having low content of levulinic acid, and an organic phase containing alcohol and ester of levunic acid. n EFFECT: in the method, esterification and extraction of the ester are combined into a single step without the need for an extra solvent. n 13 cl, 2 dwg, 1 tbl, 4 ex
