abstract FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of N-alkyl-N'-phenyl- or N,N'-dialkyl-p-phenylenediamines. Method involves the alkylation reaction of p-aminodiphenylamine or p-phenylenediamine with aliphatic (C 5 -C 10 )-alcohols at increased temperature in the presence of potassium hydroxide, distillation of vapors of water and alcohol formed in the alkylation process through heated reflux condenser and recovery of condensed alcohol vapors to the reaction zone, neutralization of reaction mass with acid and isolation of the end product. Before termination of the alkylation reaction an alkylating alcohol potassium salt is added to the reaction mass taken in the amount 10-20 wt.-% of the parent potassium hydroxide.
