abstract | FIELD: nuclear power engineering; reactor core. n SUBSTANCE: proposed fuel element has can with end parts that accommodates fuel pellets of fissionable material and burnable absorber. Fuel element is provided with shimming space disposed in upper part of can. Clearance between inner surface of can and side surface of fissionable pellets is filled with vibratory compacted groats of burnable absorber, such as gadolinium oxide. Groats fraction size amounts to maximum 30% of clearance width between inner surface of can and side surface of fissionable pellets. Vibratory compacted burnable absorber groats are impregnated with sodium noted for high heat conductance. Fissionable material used in proposed fuel element is plutonium oxide, plutonium carbide, plutonium nitride, uranium oxide, uranium carbide, or uranium nitride. n EFFECT: improved design of fuel element. n 9 cl |
