abstract | FIELD: nuclear engineering. n n n SUBSTANCE: type I primary target is flat or curved in shape and has nucleus produced in powder metallurgy process from powdered uranium nitride and metal powder mixture. Type II primary target has flat, curved, or cylindrical substrate covered with uranium nitride. Method for producing type I target to obtain fission product (molybdenum-99) includes neutron irradiation of uranium nitride in nuclear reactor. In the process uranium nucleus is produced by compressing powdered uranium nitride and metal mixture at maximal pressure of 70 kg/mm n n 2 n n , metal being chosen from metal group of aluminum, magnesium, copper, and zirconium. Type II target manufacture includes coating of flat, curved, or cylindrical substrate with uranium nitride by vacuum evaporation, chemical deposition from gas phase, physical deposition from gas phase, and evaporation.
