abstract FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves charging furnace with lime and/or dolomitized lime used as calcium-containing bulk slag-forming materials in an amount of 10-40 kg/ton of metal burden; feeding layer of semi-finished composite material comprising oxidized iron-containing and carbon-containing materials poured with iron-carbon melt; providing layer-by-layer feeding of metal burden; melting burden; finishing and discharge of melt; maintaining carbon and oxygen concentration ratio in semi-finished material within the range of 1-4; selecting consumption rate thereof provided that oxygen is introduced into burden in an amount of 0.25-2.5 wt%; additionally introducing lime and/or dolomitized lime into furnace working space in an amount of 3.5-15 kg/ton of metal burden, with total consumption of calcium-containing materials in furnace in terms of CaO within the range of 7-30 kg/ton of metal burden. Solid semi-finished material may additionally contain calcium or calcium-magnesium-containing material at the following component ratio, wt%: oxidized iron-containing material 2- 15; carbon-containing material 0.1-2.0; calcium or calcium-magnesium-containing material 0.5-20.0; iron-carbon melt the balance. Method allows charging time to be reduced, stable carbon content in metal during melting to be provided and soft melting to be eliminated.
