FIELD: optical amplifiers and their control. SUBSTANCE: methods are proposed for controlling wavelength gain characteristics of optical amplifier that has optical gain medium and pump source that feeds pumping signal to medium in pumping band. Pumping signal is characterized in spectrum that has central wavelength. The latter is controlled within pumping band for varying wavelength gain characteristic of optical amplifier. Proposed transmission system incorporates plurality of amplifiers using this method.
