abstract | FIELD: chemical-pharmaceutical industry, organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of benzhydryl chloride that is a semifinished article used in synthesis of medicinal preparations cinnarizine, cetirizine, hydroxyzine. Benzhydryl chloride of the formula where X means H or Cl is synthesized by interaction of benzhydrols of the formula where X has the above given values with concentrated hydrochloric acid in the mole ratio corresponding benzhydrol : hydrochloric acid = 1 : (2.5-8), respectively, in the presence of water-soluble organic solvent, in part, acetone or dioxane being acetone or dioxane are used in the amount 1-2 vol. p. per 1 weight p. of corresponding benzhydrol.
