abstract | FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of synthesis of aromatic nitriles, in part, phthalonitrile used as intermediate compound in synthesis of pigments and dyes, paints, varnishes, stabilizing agents and other materials. Method of synthesis of phthalonitrile involves passing gaseous mixture taken in the ratio phthalic anhydride : ammonia = 1 : (40-100) at temperature 420-480 C through catalyst stationary layer and isolation of solid phthalonitrile by condensation with sprayed liquid ammonia. Process is carried out on aluminum oxide as catalyst stationary layer and catalyst is regenerated at temperature 430-550 C for 50-70 min with air oxygen periodically after its 950-1050 h of working. Before and after regeneration catalyst is blown with inert gas and evolving ammonia-containing gases are fed to the combined processing with caking products.
