abstract | FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention describes the improved method of synthesis of ferrocene. Method involves an interaction of potassium (sodium) hydroxide with cyclopentadiene as its 15-30 wt.-% solution in n-pentane in its the mole ratio to potassium or sodium hydroxide = (1.2-1.4) : 1.0 in dimethylsulfoxide medium where 5-10 wt.-% of water is added followed by addition of ferrous chloride in dimethylsulfoxide to potassium (sodium) cyclopentadienide formed in the ratio potassium (sodium) cyclopentadienide to ferrous chloride = 2.0 : 1.0 (mole).
