abstract FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of synthesis of thiazolidinediones of the formula (III) where A means CH=CH or S; W means O; X means S, O or NR 2 where residue R 2 is hydrogen atom or C 1 -C 6 -alkyl; Y means CH or N; R means naphthyl, thienyl or phenyl that is optionally substituted once or twice with C 1 -C 3 -alkyl, CF 3 , C 1 -C 3 -alkoxy-group, F, Cl or bromine atom; R 1 means hydrogen atom, C 1 -C 6 -alkyl and n = 1-3 by reduction of compound of the formula (IV) with metallic aluminum in protonic solvent. Invention relates to also medicinal agents containing usual additions and auxiliary substances and one of derivative of thiazolidinedione as indicated above. Derivatives of thiazolidinedione are used for preparing medicinal agents designated for treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus.
