titleOfInvention | Fuel element |
abstract | FIELD: nuclear reactors of various types. SUBSTANCE: container-type fuel element provided with gas-filled space free from fuel compound which is used for collecting gaseous products of fission is provided with fusible safety valve in the form of pin or rivet in top or bottom plug made of metal whose melting point is lower than that of fuel-element cladding; valve choice was based on operating conditions and results of analyses of reactor unit emergency situations. Proposed design provides for preventing bulging of fuel element, rupture of its cladding during severe accident, contact between fuel compound and coolant, and uncontrolled escape of radioactive products to primary circuit. EFFECT: enhanced mechanical endurance and safety of fuel element. 1 cl, 2 dwg |
