abstract | FIELD: organic chemistry, pharmacy. SUBSTANCE: invention describes novel derivatives of neuraminic acid of the general formula (I) where R 1 means methyl group; R 2 , R 3 and R 4 can be similar or distinct and each means hydrogen atom or aliphatic acyl group containing 3-25 carbon atoms; W means hydrogen atom or ester residue under condition that compounds of the formula (I) where each of R 2 , R 3 and R 4 and W means hydrogen atom are excluded. Derivatives of neuraminic acid of the present invention show high inhibitory effect with respect to sialidase in vivo and they are useful as therapeutic agents or agents for prophylaxis of viral influenza infection.
