abstract FIELD: automotive industry; exhaust systems. SUBSTANCE: proposed converter has UV lamp, 50-150 cm long, featuring continuous radiation spectrum within the interval of 190-420 nm and mounted into acid- resistant housing. Gas to be cleaned passes in ring space between UV lamp and housing at a speed of 0.1-0.5 m/s. Atomizing of gas molecules takes place with subsequent recombination leading to formation of stable molecules of N 2 , CO 2 , PbO 2 . Converter has guide vanes providing movement and generating centrifugal forces throwing hard particles (PbO 2 ) to walls of housing where particles are entrapped.
