FIELD: molecular biology, agriculture, food industry. SUBSTANCE: it is possible to obtain a plant containing the increased trehalose content after insertion of nucleic acid encoding E. coli trehalose phosphate synthase into the plant cell. Trehalose can be used, for example, as an addition to foodstuffs or feedings after its extraction from the plant. Trehalose provides the prolonged storage of production since the presence of trehalose stabilizes the low moisture content in product and exhibits the preserving effect.
