abstract | FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: method involves passage of initial mixture containing alkylpyridine, oxygen- containing gas, ammonia, and water over catalytic system at 330-440 C. Catalytic system of formula V a Ti b O x , wherein a=1, b=7.5-8, and x number of oxygen atoms corresponding to valence of metals present, is prepared by aqueous ammonia-mediated coprecipitation of vanadium and titanium compounds from solutions of V(V) and Ti(IV) compounds, followed by drying, heat treatment, and granulation of precipitate. High- selectivity catalyst is thus prepared allowing, in particular, 3- methylpyridine to be obtained with yield of 95-97%.
