FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves measuring quantity of fibrinogen/fibrin, determining hematocrit or hemoglobin in non-coagulating mammalian donor whole blood sample to calculate the T-number value. The value is systemic inflammation index calculatable from equation I=a(f)+b(h)+c, where f is the measured level of fibrinogen/fibrin in the sample , h is the hematocrit or hemoglobin value in the sample and a, b and c are empiric constants.
