titleOfInvention Glyoxal production catalyst
abstract FIELD: catalysts for organic syntheses. SUBSTANCE: glyoxal is produced by vapor-phase oxidation of ethylene glycol over two-bed catalyst adding, as stabilizing additive, phosphoric acid hexamethyltriamide to gas-vapor mixture in quantity 10 to 50 ppm (on phosphorus base). Granulated silver catalyst prepared on the base of fibrous crystalline dendrite porous-structure silver is used. Catalyst bed is formed by layerwise placement of silver granules, their size increasing in direction of reaction gas mixture flow. EFFECT: increased yield of desired product due to increased conversion and process selectivity while simultaneously simplifying catalyst bed formation process, increasing duration of smooth operation of catalyst and reduced silver consumption.
