abstract |
FIELD: industrial organic syntheses. SUBSTANCE: method and plant for economical production of terephthalic acid by way of oxidizing p- xylene in acetic acid-based solvent in oxidation reactor connected with compactly designed distillation column providing efficient isolation of p-xylene and acetic acid without clogging distillation column are distinguished in the following. p-Xylene and oxygen- containing gas are fed into oxidation reactor having in its lower part collecting plate for solids consisting of perforated wavy plates and, above this collecting plate, a charge bed and, above the charge bed, distributor plate for liquid promoting p-xylene oxidation. Oxidizing off-gas is directed into distillation column, whereas finely dispersed solids are collected by agency of collecting plate. Distillation of substances contained in oxidizing off-gas is performed through charge bed accompanied with removal of heat and water from column and recycling of separated p-xylene and acetic acid into oxidation reactor.
