abstract FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method involves catalytic steam-phase methylation of 1-naphthol with methanol at 250-380 C at the mole ratio 1-naphthol: methanol = 1:(5-10), at the volume raw feeding 100-1000 K 3 . Catalyst has oxides of iron (III), vanadium (V) and manganese (II) at the following ratio, wt.-%: 100-1000 h -1 43-50; Fe 2 O 3 42-51, and MnO - the rest. Mixture of 2-methyl-1-naphthol and 2,4-dimethyl-1-naphthol is obtained. Synthesized compounds were used as the initial products for vitamin V 2 O 5 synthesis.
