abstract | 1. A catalyst composition for use as a precursor to a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system comprising a combination of a magnesium moiety, a titanium moiety and an internal donor containing at least one 1,2-phenylenedioate compound of structure (A) wherein the R-R groups are the same or different from each other from a friend, and each R-R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, a linear or branched C-C1-6 alkyl group, optionally bonded to cyclic rings, C-Saryl groups, C-Cycloalkyl groups, C -Salkoxy groups, heteroatoms, arylalkyl or alkylaryl groups and combinations thereof, provided that R and R together do not represent a methyl group, an aryl group or an alkoxy group. 2. The catalytic composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the magnesium fragment is selected from anhydrous magnesium, a halogen-containing anhydrous magnesium compound, alkyl magnesium halide, alkoximagnesium halide, aryloxy magnesium halide, dialkoximagnesium, aryloxy magnesium, magnesium dialkyl magnesium dichloride and mixtures of magnesium and magnesium complexes. The catalytic composition according to claim 1, characterized in that the titanium fragment is selected from the group consisting of titanium tetrahalide, alkoxy titanium trihalide, dialkoxy titanium dihalide, trialkoxy titanium monohalide, tetra alkoxy titanium and mixtures thereof. 4.
