The method of claim 8, wherein reacting 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-4-substituted-pyrimidine with an oxidizing agent comprises reacting 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-4-substituted-pyrimidine with ozone. The method of claim 8, wherein reacting 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-4-substituted-pyrimidine with an oxidizing agent comprises reacting 2,6-dichloro-5-methoxy-4-vinyl-pyrimidine with ozone to form 2,6- dichloro-5-methoxy-pyrimidine-4-carbaldehyde. 11. A method for producing 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-4-substituted-pyrimidine, comprising: reacting 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-pyrimidine with an organometal halide reagent to form 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-4- substituted-3- (metal-halogen or metal) -pyrimidine; and the oxidation of 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-4-substituted-3- (metal-halogen or metal) -pyrimidine to form 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-4-substituted-pyrimidine. 12. The method of claim 11, wherein reacting 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-pyrimidine with an organometallic reagent comprises reacting 2,6-dihalo-5-alkoxy-pyrimidine with a Grignard reagent.
