titleOfInvention | RECOMBINANT MICROORGANISM FOR PRODUCING USEFUL METABOLITES |
abstract | 1. A recombinant microorganism that is characterized by: a) the presence of phosphoketolase activity; b) (i) the presence of a reduced or inactivated Embden-Meyerhof-Parnassus (EMPP) pathway by inactivating the gene (s) that encodes the phosphofructokinase (s), or by genetic modification to reduce phosphofructokinase activity compared to an unmodified microorganism; or (ii) lack of phosphofructokinase activity; and c) (i) the presence of a reduced or inactivated oxidative branch of the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) by inactivating the gene (s) that encodes (s) glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, or by genetic modification for decrease in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity compared with an unmodified microorganism; or (ii) lack of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity. 2. A recombinant microorganism according to claim 1, which is further characterized by: d) the presence of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate phosphatase activity. 3. A recombinant microorganism according to claim 1 or 2, wherein EMPP is further reduced or inactivated by inactivating the gene (s) that encodes (s) glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase, or by genetic modification to reduce the activity of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase by compared with an unmodified microorganism. 4. Recombinant microorganism in accordance with any one of paragraphs. 1-2, which has been genetically modified to provide increased phosphoketolase activity. 5. Recombinant microorganism in accordance with any one of paragraphs. 1-2, where the specified microorganism is a mushroom. 6. Recombinant Micro |
