titleOfInvention SELECTIVE CELL LYSIS USING IONIC SURFACE-ACTIVE SUBSTANCES
abstract 1. A method for the selective lysis of eukaryotic cells in a sample containing or presumably containing microorganisms, said method comprising the steps of: a) providing a sample with eukaryotic cells containing or presumably containing microorganisms, b) adding an ionic surfactant and buffer to said sample to obtain a solution with a pH of about 9.0 or higher, c) incubating said solution for a period of time long enough for lysis of eukaryotic cells. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that said sample is a mammalian blood sample. The method according to claim 2, characterized in that said blood sample is whole blood. A method according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that said microorganism is selected from the group consisting of bacteria and fungi. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that said incubation step c) is carried out for from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Method 1, characterized in that the ratio between the volume of added detergent and the added buffer and the sample volume is from 2/1 to 1 / 10.7. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the ionic detergent is present in the solution in a concentration of from 0.1 to 5% (% mass / volume or% volume / volume). The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the ionic surfactant is selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactants and cationic surfactants, while the anionic surfactant is preferably selected from the group consisting of alkyl sulfates, alkyl ether sulfates , docs, fluorine-containing surfactants
