Extruded catalyst comprising MgO in the range from 0.1 wt.% To 90 wt.%; a metal-containing silicate clay binder in the range of 1 wt% and 20 wt% and one or more ZrO, a tetravalent rare earth metal and a trivalent rare earth metal in the range of 1 wt% and 20 wt%, the catalyst exhibits lump crushing resistance of at least 2.0 lb / mm and exhibits fresh isomerization rate and aged productivity after aging at 650 ° C for 24 hours, where the aged isomerization rate is at least 50% of the fresh isomerization rate. The catalyst according to claim 1, wherein the MgO is present in an amount of at least 50 wt%. The catalyst of claim 2, wherein the MgO is present in the range from about 70 wt% to about 90 wt%.
