titleOfInvention METHOD FOR PRODUCING ε-CAPROLACTON AND 1,6-HEXANDIOL
abstract 1. A process for the preparation of 1,6-hexanediol and ε-caprolactone, comprising the following steps: (a) esterification of a dicarboxylic acid solution with an alcohol, (b) partial catalytic hydrogenation obtained in step (a) a mixture of esters, (c) distillation of the obtained co stage (b) derived hydrogenation product and separation of the head product containing 1,6-hexanediol, and (d) cyclization of the ester of 6-hydroxycaproic acid from the bottom fraction of stage (c) in the presence of at least one alcohol with a boiling point in the region the pressure used above the boiling point of ε-caprolactone, a mixture of such alcohols or a composition containing such alcohols, this alcohol being free or also bound as an ester component of the bottom fraction. (e) purifying ε-caprolactone from the distillate from step (d) by distillation, wherein the cyclization in step (d) is carried out in the liquid phase in an apparatus with a column containing more than one theoretical separating stage. Process according to claim 1, wherein the cyclization of the 6-hydroxycaproic acid ester in step (d) is carried out in the presence of at least one alcohol with a boiling point in the pressure range used above the boiling point of ε-caprolactone, this alcohol being bound as an ester component cubic fraction.3. Process according to claim 1, wherein the esterification in step (a) is carried out with an alcohol which boils in the pressure range from 10 to 1500 mbar at a higher temperature than ε-caprolactone, a mixture or composition containing such alcohols. Process according to claim 1, wherein the alcohols used for the esterification in step (a) are polyhydric alcohols, in particular diols. FROM
