titleOfInvention FOOD COMPOSITIONS FOR DOMESTIC ANIMALS, INCLUDING LIQUID ACID WITH SLOW-RELEASED RELEASE, AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING AND USING THEM
abstract 1. A feed composition comprising a feed component comprising (i) a pet food nutrient; (ii) lipoic acid or its salt; and (iii) delayed release material, for slow delivery of lipoic acid with a delayed release. The feed composition of claim 1, wherein the delayed release material is hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), and combinations thereof. The pet food composition of claim 1, wherein the pet food nutrient comprises protein in an amount of 10-50% on a dry matter basis. The pet food composition of claim 1, wherein the pet food nutrient comprises 5-30% fat on a dry matter basis. The food composition of claim 1, wherein the lipoic acid is from about 1 ppm. (ppm) to about 4,500 ppm. 6. The feed composition of claim 1, wherein the lipoic acid is from about 10 ppm. up to about 2500 ppm. 7. The feed composition according to claim 1, in which lipoic acid is from about 100 ppm. up to about 1000 ppm. 8. The food composition of claim 1, wherein the pet is a dog or cat. The feed composition according to claim 1 in the form of pieces. The food composition according to claim 1 in the form of a snack. A piece-shaped pet food containing: (i) a gelatinized starch matrix and (ii) lipoic acid or a salt thereof, the delivery of lipoic acid being slow, with a delayed release. 12. The food of claim 11, wherein the gelled starch matrix is a source of extrusion cooked starch. The food according to claim 11, in which the gelatinized starch matrix includes a component selected from such cereals,
