titleOfInvention METHOD FOR PRODUCING CALCIUM CARBONATE
abstract 1. A method for producing calcium carbonate, according to which a material containing calcium oxide is contacted in an aqueous medium with carbon dioxide in a series of carbonization units, characterized in that - carbonization of a material containing calcium oxide is carried out in a first carbonization unit in an aqueous suspension with a value pH higher than 11.0 to obtain calcium carbonate in an aqueous suspension, - an effluent formed from an aqueous suspension having a pH higher than 11.5 containing calcium carbonate and calcium hydroxide is recovered from the first carbonization unit, and - carbonization of calcium hydroxide contained in the recovered effluent is carried out , in a second carbonization unit to obtain a calcium carbonate slurry having a pH of less than 6.9. The method of claim 1, wherein a slurry having a pH in the range of about 12.0 to about 13.0 is recovered from the first carbonation unit. The process according to claim 1, in which the carbonization of calcium hydroxide in the second carbonization unit is carried out until the pH value is less than 6.5, in particular to a pH value in the range from 5.5 to 6.3. The process of claim 1, wherein the first carbonation unit comprises a calcium oxide slurry, wherein the calcium oxide concentration is from about 2% to about 25%, preferably from about 5 to 15%, based on the total weight of the total slurry. The method of claim 1, including providing a source of carbon dioxide in at least the first carbonation unit. The method of claim 5, wherein the carbon dioxide source comprises a gas or liquid containing carbon dioxide. The method of claim 1, wherein at least the first carbonation unit
