titleOfInvention | ANTIMICROBIAL COMPOSITIONS WITH CONTROLLED RELEASE AND METHODS FOR TREATING EAR DISEASES |
abstract | 1. A sterile aqueous pharmaceutical composition for use in the treatment of an ear disease or condition containing a thermally reversible gel and an antimicrobial agent! moreover, the composition does not contain preservatives, is introduced in the form of a liquid at a temperature close to room temperature and forms a gel at a temperature between room temperature and body temperature; and provides a sustained release of the antimicrobial agent in the ear for at least about 7 days. ! 2. The composition according to claim 1, in which the thermally reversible gel contains a copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene. ! 3. The composition according to claim 2, in which the copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene is Poloxamer 407.! 4. The composition according to claim 1, in which the antimicrobial agent contains multiparticulates. ! 5. The composition according to claim 1, in which the antimicrobial agent is in the form of micronized particles. ! 6. The composition according to claim 1, in which the antimicrobial agent is an antibiotic. ! 7. The composition according to claim 6, in which the antibiotic is selected from sulfonamide, penicillin, quinolone, cephalosporin or a macrolide antibiotic. ! 8. The composition according to claim 6, in which the antibiotic is a sulfonamide selected from mafenide, pronosyl, sulfacetamide, sulfamethiazole, sulfanilamide, sulfasalazine, sulfisoxazole, trimethoprim and co-trimoxazole. ! 9. The composition according to claim 6, in which the antibiotic is penicillin selected from amoxicillin, ampicillin, azocillin, carbenicillin, dicloxacillin, flucloxacillin, meslocillin, methicillin, nafcillin, oxacillin, peperacillin and ticarcillin. ! 10. The composition according to claim 6, in which the antibiotic is present |
