titleOfInvention | OBTAINING PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR INCREASING MINERAL BONE DENSITY |
abstract | 1. The use of a peptide derived from the cocaine and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART), which has the biological activity of human CART, to obtain a pharmaceutical composition for increasing bone mineral density for the treatment or prevention of diseases associated with decreased bone mass, and for healing fractures, where treatment or prophylaxis includes the continued provision of elevated serum levels of a CART-derived peptide in a subject to be treated. ! 2. The use according to claim 1, where continuously elevated serum levels of the CART-derived peptide are provided by delayed release of the CART-derived peptide for an extended period of time from the sustained release formulation. ! 3. The use of claim 2, wherein the sustained release formulation has an implant shape, in particular a subcutaneous implant, or a vaginal ring shape. ! 4. The use of claim 2, wherein the sustained release formulation is in the form of a biologically degradable polymer matrix. ! 5. The use according to claim 1 or 2, wherein elevated serum levels of the CART-derived peptide are continuously provided by avoiding or inhibiting the excretion of the CART-derived peptide. ! 6. The use according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the peptide derived from the cocaine and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) is selected from the group consisting of a full-sized cocaine and amphetamine-controlled transcript, CART55-102 rat, CART61-102 rat, CART62 -102 rats, human CART42-89, human CART48-89 and human CART49-89. ! 7. The use according to any one of claims 1 to 3, where the increase in bone mineral density is intended for treatment or prophylaxis |
